Sandy Creek State Land Forest


SANDY CREEK STATE LAND FOREST is located in the Town of Sandy Creek in Oswego County, New York State. It is 583 acres of mostly moderate to heavy forests of hardwoods and evergreens. Over 1 mile of Deer Creek runs through this state forest and is known to have trout and the occasional steelhead for sport fishing. The state forest is accessible from Cummings Road a town road located west off County Route 48 and is only 5 minutes from Exit 37 (Sandy Creek, NY Exit) from Interstate Route 81.

The name of DEER CREEK is appropriate because of the high whitetail deer population that inhabits these secluded woods. Many wild birds also live here and it is common to see wild turkey, hawks as well as osprey.

Folks who enjoy Sandy Creek State Forest love the abundant wildlife and like the many other resources near this forest. Within 10 minutes there is over 20,000 acres of other state land forests as well as white sand beaches of Lake Ontario. Within 10 minutes you have Winona State Forest, Little John State Forest and Salmon River State Land Forests. The neighboring private woods are well suited for establishing a family vacation cabin in the woods, or a hunting camp or a snowmobile lodge.
